Porta Potty Rental for a Private Party or Backyard Event
A garden party is the smallest booking most yards take, and the questions are about the driveway rather than the count.
How many porta potties a private party needs
The working figure is one unit per 50 guests over four hours, from ANSI/PSAI Z4.3. Add 15 to 20% where alcohol is served, and go up with duration. Worked through for a typical private party: 75 guests over 5 hours comes to 2 units, or 3 with drinks served, of which at least 1 should be accessible.
At this size the ratio rounds to one or two units and the real decision is whether guests use the house at all. Renting a unit so they do not is a common reason for the booking.
What a private party costs to cover
A standard portable toilet runs $185 to $199 for a weekend, measured from the 7 companies who publish a rate for one (median $199), rather than the number the trade repeats without checking.
A weekend rental is delivered Friday and collected Monday with no servicing in between, which is well within what a single unit handles at party numbers. What each unit type really costs, measured from 1,976 operator websites.
Which units a private party wants
One or two units for most gatherings, a flushing unit if you would rather guests did not use the house, and a hand-wash station where food is served.
- Standard portable toilet 87% of companies
- Flushing unit 43% of companies
- Hand-wash station 55% of companies
Where to put them
Somewhere the truck can set it down without crossing a lawn it will rut, screened from the seating area, and on a level surface. A slight slope that looks like nothing is enough to make a unit unpleasant to use.
When to book
Short notice is usually fine outside graduation and holiday weekends, which are the two dates every yard in a metro is booked solid.
Private party: what catches people out
Access is the whole conversation. The truck needs a route in and somewhere firm to set down, and a unit cannot be carried through a side gate.
The delivery truck needs roughly the clearance of a garbage truck, and a low branch or a narrow gate ends the conversation, so measure before you book rather than on the morning. Weekend minimums are normal: most yards price a Friday-to-Monday drop as one rental whether the party is Saturday or Sunday. A flushing unit costs meaningfully more than a standard cabin and is the upgrade most people actually want for guests at the house.
What to ask the company
Can you get down our driveway, where will you put it, and what is the shortest rental you take? A yard that answers those without checking is one that does this work every week, which is worth more than a few dollars either way on the quote.
