We are building a complete, accurate list of the independent porta potty companies operating in the United States, and recording which units each one actually rents.

Who gets listed

Independently owned portable sanitation companies: the operator whose truck shows up is the company you called. We don't list national carriers like United Site Services or United Rentals, we don't list brokers who resell your booking to somebody else, and we don't list the multi-state marketing networks that run a page per town off one website. Who we excluded, and why.

A company needs at least 5 Google reviews to appear on our town pages. That's a deliberate floor. It keeps the town pages useful and filters out listings for businesses that have closed or never really opened. Companies under the threshold still have a profile here and can still claim it; they just don't show up in the town listings until they clear 5. The threshold is the same for everyone and can't be bought.

How the Index Score works

Town pages are ordered by an Index Score out of 100, and it is worth knowing what moves it, because companies can't pay us to move it for them. Review volume is 30 points, Google rating 25, unit coverage 30, and 15 for being contactable at all, which is split between having a website (7), a phone number (5) and a listed address (3). Unit coverage is weighted by rarity, since nearly every yard runs standard units and few run a shower trailer, so listing an unusual unit moves a company further than listing a common one.

A company moves up by earning reviews or by listing the units it rents. That is the whole mechanism. No payment changes it and there is no editorial thumb on the scale, which also means we cannot move a company up as a favor when one asks. Where the data comes from

Listings are built from public sources: business listings for the company details, and each company's own website for the units it says it rents. Nothing here was submitted by the companies themselves unless it says so.

That is why almost every listing reads Unclaimed. It does not mean we doubt the company, it means the owner has not been through it and told us what we got wrong. Where an owner has, the listing says so and what they told us overrides what the crawl found. Corrections reach a person rather than a queue, and they are free, because an accurate directory is worth more than a big one.

How to read what is here

Three things worth knowing, so the numbers mean what you think they mean.

Unit coverage counts what a company publishes about itself. A yard that owns an ADA unit and never mentions it online is not credited with one here. That is why the standard portable toilet, which practically every operator carries, shows lower coverage than the restroom trailer. The measure rewards being written down.

Service areas are estimated as a 25-mile radius from the company's address rather than confirmed with the owner, so a company may cover further than we show or not as far. Always check before you count on it.

And every figure carries the date it was read, because websites change. Coverage is richest in metros, where operators keep the most detailed sites.

What it costs

Nothing, in either direction. There is no paid placement or featured tier, and no ranking to buy, and we do not sell leads or charge for a claim. If any of that changes, this page changes first and before it happens rather than after.

Who runs Porta Potty Finder?

Ryan Muniak, who builds and maintains websites for independent waste and sanitation companies and runs a waste-collection business of his own. The pages are built by a generator, the way any directory this size is; what a person does is decide who gets listed, write the rules the generator follows, and check the output. Corrections go to a person, not a queue.

How does the site make money?

It does not, yet. There is no paid tier, no advertising and no placement for sale. Quote requests sent through the forms here are passed to operators serving that town at no charge, and nobody pays to receive one. It exists because an accurate directory of independent operators is useful, and because the people who run it work with these companies.

Some of the companies listed are your clients. Does that change their position?

No, and the site is built so it cannot. Whoever runs this also builds websites for independent sanitation companies, and some of those companies are listed here the same way every other qualifying company is: found in public sources, scored by the same formula, with no thumb on it. The Index Score is computed from review volume, rating, unit coverage and contactability and from nothing else — there is no field anywhere that moves a position by hand, not for a client, not for anyone. Whether a company counts as an independent operator at all is a judgement a person makes, by documented rules, and it decides whether a listing exists rather than where it sits. Every outbound link to a listed company is nofollow, including theirs, so being listed passes no search credit to anybody.
